Patient Rights and Responsibilities
Telehealth Regulations
- At Hemine Health and Wellness, our providers are committed to supporting your mental and physical well-being. We aim to deliver high-quality, safe, and accessible care at every visit.
- To receive telehealth services, you must be physically located in Maryland, Washington, or Oregon at the time of your appointment. If you are outside these states during your scheduled visit, we are unable to proceed due to telehealth laws, and the appointment will be canceled with the applicable no-show fee.
- While telehealth increases convenience, some health concerns may require an in-person evaluation. If your provider determines that your condition is better addressed face-to-face, you will be referred to a suitable in-person provider.
- All appointments are made online and conducted through secure two-way video via Zoom.
SMS, Texting, 10DLC Privacy Policy
- Hemine Health and Wellness does not share or sell mobile information to third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional use. All SMS opt-in data and consent information remain private.
- You will have the option to consent to SMS communication when completing your intake paperwork. Select “Yes” to receive text messages or “No” if you prefer not to.
- Standard message and data rates may apply. You may opt out at any time by texting STOP, and you may request help by texting HELP.
Mutual Respect
- You will always be treated with compassion, acceptance, and respect. We do not judge your personal beliefs, lifestyle, or choices.
- Respectful communication is expected from both patients and providers. While your provider will maintain professionalism, any behavior that includes yelling, cursing, harassment, or aggression may lead to dismissal from the practice.
- Clear and honest communication is essential for safe and effective care. If you are not comfortable sharing certain details initially, you may revisit the conversation at any time without judgment.
Confidentiality
- Your information is confidential and protected by state laws. However, we are required to take action if you express intent to harm yourself or someone else, are unable to care for yourself, or disclose suspected abuse involving a child or adult. In these cases, emergency services may be contacted for a wellness check.
- If you make a threat toward another person, we must immediately notify that individual, even without your consent.
Communication
- Hemine Health and Wellness operates as a smaller practice, but we make every effort to respond to patients as quickly as possible.
- Phone calls and portal messages are typically answered within 48 hours.
Appointments and Cancelations
- Appointments are made through the patient portal. After scheduling, you will receive confirmation and required forms to complete before your visit.
- Appointments must be canceled with 48 hours’ notice. Late cancellations or missed visits will result in the full visit charge. Medicaid patients are not charged cancellation fees when applicable.
- If you miss two consecutive appointments or three within a year, you may be discharged or asked to designate someone who can assist you with reminders. Ongoing missed visits may result in referral to another practice that may better meet your needs.
Declaration for Mental Health
- Some states allow you to create a legal document known as a Declaration for Mental Health Treatment, outlining your wishes for future mental health care.
- This document is used only if a court and two medical professionals determine that you cannot make your own decisions.
- You may use it to appoint someone to make mental health decisions for you and to outline treatments you prefer or do not want.
- Declarations are valid for three years and can be changed or canceled if you remain capable of making decisions.
- Provide a copy to both your provider and your designated decision-maker.
- Patient may obtain a copy of the form or by calling the Department of Health Services.
Pharmacy
- Prescriptions may be sent to any pharmacy that operates in Maryland, Washington, or Oregon.
- Medication costs are the patient’s responsibility.
- Discounted pricing may be found at: https://costplusdrugs.com https://www.goodrx.com
No Benzodiazepines
- Benzodiazepines (such as Xanax or Klonopin) are sedative medications that may cause cognitive impairment, dependence, and safety risks when used long-term.
- For safety reasons, Hemine Health and Wellness does not prescribe long-term benzodiazepines. We can support you in tapering off these medications safely if needed.
Laboratory
- Certain visits may require laboratory testing.
- Lab orders may be sent to any approved laboratory within Maryland, Washington, or Oregon.
- Laboratory fees are the patient’s responsibility and must be arranged directly with the lab.
Payment
- Payments and copays are due at the beginning of each visit. Outstanding balances cannot be carried over. Unpaid fees may require rescheduling and may incur late cancellation or no-show charges.
- We accept Visa, Mastercard, American Express, and Discover. Cash payments may be made for in-person visits.
- Hemine Health and Wellness accepts major insurance plans. Self-pay patients will receive a Good Faith Estimate under the No Surprises Act, and superbills can be provided for reimbursement if needed.
- Visit fees cover evaluation and therapy only. Medications, labs, referrals, emergency visits, hospitalization, and additional services are billed separately.
No Surprises Act / Good Faith Estimate Notice
- Federal law requires that healthcare providers give patients who do not have insurance, or who choose not to use insurance, a Good Faith Estimate of expected medical costs.
- You are entitled to a written estimate for mental health and medical services, including psychotherapy.
- You may request a Good Faith Estimate before scheduling any visit.
- If your final bill is $400 or more above your estimate, you may dispute the charges. Keep a copy of your estimate for your records.
